SAN FRANCISCO OPERA
"The Future Is Now" Adler Fellows Concert
Through decades of this event, my experience at every one of them was similar in having one or two peak experiences, performances that swept the listener away and stayed in memory. For this concert, even among a handful of standouts, “the” moment came during a generous excerpt from Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos….Handling the difficult vocal requirements with ease and power, Simone McIntosh’s Composer and Elisa Sunshine’s Zerbinetta clashed and (almost) reconciled, projecting to the audience the unexpected mutual attraction the characters themselves are not aware of. Their duet provided “the” moment when everything else falls away….The cast was uniformly outstanding, ready to go onstage next door, if the SF Opera centennial season happens to include Ariadne.
SAN FRANCISCO CLASSICAL VOICE
Elisa Sunshine, who in 2019 created the role of Selena in Jake Heggie’s If I Were You, has a bright, sparkling soprano which was in ample display here in this aria as Lucia recalls seeing a ghost but then exults in her love for Edgardo.
BERKELEY DAILY PLANET
Soprano Elisa Sunshine brought a blend of vocal sparkle and theatrical charisma to the Act 1 duet from Donizetti’s ‘Daughter of the Regiment.’
SF CHRONICLE
With strong, clear voices, some of the singers sounded as professional as the top stars already at home at San Francisco Opera….The concert’s second act offered more delights: Soprano Elisa Sunshine was fun, feisty and powerful hanging with the soldiers in Donizetti’s “La fille du régiment."

SELENA, "IF I WERE YOU"
Merola Opera Program
“The character Selena is Diana’s rock, and Elisa Sunshine’s steady, vibrant soprano made the most of her every moment. Ms. Sunshine also mined every bit of drama out of Selena’s revelatory final encounter with Diana.”

ZERBINETTA, Lowell House Opera
“But the heart of the second part of the evening is Zerbinetta’s wild, funny, raciness. The point of the aria is to tell Ariadne to find herself another man—she even leads by example, hooking up with one of her troupe. Elisa Sunshine was comic, enticing and vocally athletic. The opera is set up for Zerbinetta to steal the show, and that is exactly what happened.”
